Gerontology Program

Gerontology is the study of aging. It is multidisciplinary and includes biological, social, family, and psychological processes, as well as the provision of services to older people. As gerontology is multidisciplinary, professionals from a variety of disciplines study gerontology and work with older people. BYU offers an undergraduate minor within the field of gerontology. The purpose is to supplement students’ training in their major field. Giving students these opportunities to learn about the aging process and older adults enhances their career opportunities. Because the study of aging extends into so many different fields, required coursework for the program can be completed by participating in courses offered by a number of departments on campus. This allows students to pursue their individual interests within the field of gerontology, while preparing to tackle the challenges of our aging population.
